When EMUs run at a high speed, the pantograph would be affected by airflow and blown up in dropping status, which would result in catenary short-circuit fault. In order to evaluate the pantograph aerodynamics characteristics in dropping status and ensure pantograph performance and safety operation, pantograph aerodynamics experimental research in dropping status under strong wind condition for the Lanzhou to Wulumuqi passenger railway CRH2G EMUs was carried up. The experimental results indicated that the pantograph blowing up force was far less than the dropping holding force, so the passive rising pantograph risk because of airflow action couldn’t exist.
