The main components and their parameters of AC drive system of the exported Macedon EMUs were introduced. The technical characteristics about lightweight design of the traction converter were mainly described, especially from which secondary resonant circuit was removed, thus dimension and weight of traction converter cabinet could be reduced considerably compared with conventional method. The result of combined test proved that key parameters, such as DC link voltage, temperature rise of traction converter and traction motor and output performance of auxiliary inverter, met the predefined technical requirements. According to the performance in EMUs commissioning and commercial operation, the AC drive system functioned stably and reliably.
